Global Connections and Local Impact from ‘The Academy’ in Krakow

Last November, two members of the National Board of the Malta Girl Guides, Claire Formosa and Julia Borg, attended ‘The Academy’, an international Guiding and Scouting event that brought together participants from over 30 countries. Held in the vibrant city of Krakow, Poland, the event served as a hub for learning, cultural exchange and global networking within the Guiding and Scouting community.

They had the opportunity to engage in a variety of training sessions, each aimed at addressing current and future challenges in Guiding and Scouting. Some of the topics covered included:

~ Promoting and encouraging youth involvement, ensuring young members are at the heart of decision-making and leadership succession

~ Preparing leaders to understand and navigate artificial intelligence responsibly in a rapidly changing digital landscape

~ Raising awareness and equipping participants with tools to support well-being in their communities

~ Strategies to promote sustainable development within organisations

~ Fostering the abilities necessary to inspire, guide and lead effectively.

These workshops not only enhanced the skills of the Maltese representatives but also provided insights to further strengthen the work of the Malta Girl Guides back home. In addition to the sessions, Claire and Julia had the opportunity to meet and connect with Guides and Scouts from all over the world. Their international peers shared ideas, providing fresh perspectives and tools for Claire and Julia to bring back to Malta, ensuring the continued growth and success of the Malta Girl Guides.

The Academy also featured an International Night, where participants proudly shared their countries’ unique traditions, food, dance, and costumes. This cultural exchange underscored the richness of diversity within the global guiding and scouting community. More than just a gathering, the event was a transformative experience that highlighted the strength of international unity in guiding and scouting. It emphasized collaboration, shared values, and the importance of working together to create a positive global impact.

The Maltese representatives returned inspired and ready to implement the knowledge they gained, reinforcing their commitment to empowering young women and fostering positive change in their communities.
