Meet The Team

Carmen Elina Camilleri

President

Carmen joined Guiding in 1988 at the age of 34 when her elder two daughters became Brownies. She eventually became a Brownie Guider with the 14th St Joseph Sliema Unit. She states that this was quite a natural thing to do since her dad was a GSL in the Scouts Association and it was inevitable that she learned all her Guiding skills from him as she grew up.

Carmen has held various National Roles within MGG.  Previous roles include National Events Commissioner, Programme Commissioner and North District Commissioner. She is currently serving as Deputy Chief Commissioner.

Guiding has equipped Carmen with skills that have improved her performance in all other spheres of her life and it  has  given her the chance to mentor girls and young women to do the same.

Carmen is mum to 4 daughters, all ex-Guides, and grandmother of 5 with the girls being Guides too, naturally! She has worked as a nurse, midwife, nurse tutor and teacher and is now retired. Carmen loves challenges, adventure, creative skills, meeting people, reading and gardening.

Steph Anastasi

Chief Commissioner

Steph started her Guiding journey at the age of 5 with the Marsaskala Unit. Following her years as a ranger, she started her leadership journey and became a Dolphin Guider . Steph started venturing out also on National level and has in fact held various roles; as a Member on Guiding for All Funds Committee, Diversity Team Member, Island Dolphin Advisor, Deputy South District Commissioner and South District Commissioner. All these experiences have led her to the role she proudly holds today- Chief Commissioner for MGG.

Through her Guiding journey Steph has gained self confidence and learnt to value her worth. She learnt to work in different teams with different people. Guiding has taught her that she can be anyone she sets her mind to be and that there are no limitations to reach one’s goals.

Steph holds a Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism Management and is currently working as a Recruitment Consultant and Database Manager.

Going by the sea is what helps her to regain energy and strength after stressful days. Calm or rough, she feels the sea is always a good place to meditate and to reflect on what was and what will be.

Maureen Amoroso

Deputy Chief Commissioner

Maureen joined the 12th Birzebbuga Girl Guides as an Adult Volunteer at the age of 39. She immediately started her training to become a Warranted Guider, which she became as Dolphin Guider a year after.

She realized that members could discover and develop their potential whilst making a positive difference in their community. She also joined on district level in helping out the events team and eventually took up the role of Deputy South District Commissioner. She was also part of the National Training Team. The experience acquired form such a role led her to the role she has today – Deputy Chief Commissioner for MGG.

Carmen  has instilled in Elizabeth  the love for Guiding, together with other Leaders who have also been an inspiration to her during these years.

Summer is her favourite time of the year as she loves swimming and snorkeling. Having coffee and cake in the company of her family and pet cats is her favourite time of the day.

Rachel Aquilina

Guiding has been part of Rachel’s life for over 20 years and has become part of her lifestyle. Being a teacher , it helped her to have more confidence and use the Guiding method in her teaching.

Moreover thanks to Guiding, she can do most of her hobbies like adventurous activities such as campings, abseiling and ziplining.

During these last years, Rachel had various roles within MGG amongst which being part of the Stop the Violence Team and Program Team and Training Administrator. Thanks to these roles, she feels she can give more to the Association . These roles have also helped her in acquiring leadership and organizational skills which are great assets throughout her daily routine. Thanks to these roles and experiences, she feels confident in leading the South District as  South District Commissioner.

Stephanie Caruana Schembri

South Deputy District Commissioner

Stephanie started her guiding journey when she was 7 years old, as a Brownie and has never looked back since. Today she is a Dolphin Guider and also sits on the National Board.

Guiding for Stephanie is a style of living, a safe space which she can call home. Guiding helped her discover her potential and endorse a new perspective of life. Guiding was pivotal throughout her development: as a young girl to create healthy friendships and learning by doing and as a teenager- to develop a strong sense of identity, challenge herself for the better whilst simultaneously looking up respectfully towards authority. Guiding pushed her to enhance her ability to master time management in achieving career goals, and in balancing family responsibilities alongside volunteering.

Eventually, all this led her to become the woman she is today- a social worker by profession, a wife, a mother and  Deputy South District Commissioner within the Malta Girl Guides.

Analise Scicluna

Central District Commissioner

Analise joined MGG at the age of 14 and started her leadership journey two years later. Apart from being a leader with the Guides’ Section, she has also had the responsibility of leading the Rangers’ Section in her unit for a number of years.

Analise considers the biggest highlights in her Guiding journey to be the various international experiences she participated in. Analise has also volunteered with Girlguiding UK and Girl Guides Australia and has represented MGG at the network meeting in Budapest in 2016.

Following these International experiences, three years ago she decided to join the MGG International Team. She also decided to involve herself even more on a National basis and decided to take up the role of Central District Commissioner.

Guiding was instrumental in giving Analise a voice to speak about things she has strong opinions on. The leadership, time management and organisational skills which she has acquired through her Guiding journey are vital for her career as Conference and Events Coordinator  and this continues confirming how instrumental Guiding has been in her life.

Chantelle Galea

Guiding has given Chantelle so much over the years. It has provided her with lifelong friendships , life skills and values. It has helped to shape her in the woman she is today and taught her to always fight for what she believes in. Guiding to her is the place where girls can explore their interests, while providing a safe environment for personal development.

Chantelle graduated with a degree with Honours in Insurance and Risk Management, which led her to take up the role of a Customer Support Executive within the Health Insurance Department at GasanMamo Insurance.
