Carmen, also known by many as Elina, joined Guiding in 1988 at the age of 34 when her two eldest daughters became Brownies. She eventually became a Brownie Guider with the 14th St Joseph Sliema Unit. She states that this was quite a natural thing to do since her father was a Group Scout Leader in the Scouts Association and it was inevitable that she would learn all her Guiding skills from him as she grew up.
Carmen has held various National Roles within MGG. Her previous roles include National Events Commissioner, Programme Commissioner, North District Commissioner and Deputy Chief Commissioner.
Guiding has equipped Carmen with skills that have enhanced her performance in all other spheres of her life and it has given her the opportunity to mentor girls and young women to achieve the same.
Carmen is a mother to four daughters, all ex-Guides, and grandmother of five with the girls naturally following in the Guiding tradition! She has worked as a nurse, midwife, nurse tutor and teacher and is now retired. Carmen loves challenges, adventure, creative skills, meeting people, reading and gardening.
