19th Dingli Girl Guides Celebrates its 25-Year Anniversary in Sicily

As part of their 25th anniversary celebratory activities, the Dingli Girl Guides visited Sicily for a few days, between 6th and 9th July. The group of 18 girls accompanied by 6 leaders, stayed at Alia Sicily Camping within Pippa’s Paddock nestled in the Madonie Mountains.

The four day trip was filled with lots of adventurous and cultural activities. The trip started off with a splash as they spent a whole day at Etna land Water Park. Later, from the camp site they trekked to Gurfa Caves to witness a spectacular stone complex from the Neolithic period.

The girls loved interacting with the beautiful and friendly horses, during the horse orienteering experience at Pippa’s Paddock. They also managed to attend a local feast celebrating the village’s local heritage. Another highlight was a visit to the Madonie regional natural park, a forest and mountainous region characterised by unspoilt natural beauty. At Parco Avventura Madonie the Girl Guides participated in a range of adventurous experiences fully surrounded by nature. The girls challenged themselves by experiencing the high ropes courses and zip-lining. On the way back to camp they drove through the Madonie Mountains where they witnessed wild deer grazing, they stopped at Polizzi Generosa’s belvedere for a spectacular view and dinner. Their last day was spent at Circolo Nautico Tre Laghi in Enna, a beautiful lake where the girls enjoyed swimming, a boat ride and canoeing around the lake, surrounded by nature.

For most of the girls this was their first Girl Guiding international experience abroad. The girls returned with memorable experiences filled with lots of fun, laughs, new challenges and friendships whilst immersing themselves in a different environment, culture and heritage.

Similar international experiences are held regularly and are part of the Girl Guiding programme, offered by the Malta Girl Guides in various local towns and villages.
