Santa Venera Girl Guides Take on Our Chalet: Thrills, Culture and Adventure

The 24th Santa Venera Girl Guide Unit embarked on an adventure of a lifetime to Our Chalet in Switzerland. Upon arriving in Adelboden, the group settled into the cozy surroundings of Our Chalet, which became their home for the week. During the opening ceremony, they gained insights into the history of the Chalet, a reflection that deepened their appreciation throughout their stay. The adventure began with a hike to Engstligen Falls, Switzerland’s second-longest waterfall, where breathtaking views exceeded all expectations. The group ascended to Engstligenalp Adelboden, a scenic alpine plateau accessible by cable car, to enjoy panoramic mountain vistas. A refreshing swim in a pool overlooking the Alps provided a moment of relaxation amid the awe-inspiring landscape.

The group also delved into Swiss traditions and culture. A Swiss night organized by Our Chalet featured a quiz on Swiss facts, fostering a greater understanding of the country. They participated in a scavenger hunt through Adelboden, discovering hidden treasures and learning about the village’s history and traditions. An international night offered the opportunity to share Maltese culture, introducing fellow participants to local treats like Kinnie and Twistees. This cultural exchange, joined by groups from the United Kingdom and Canada, culminated in a campfire filled with storytelling, stunts, and camaraderie.

Adventurous activities included river rafting, a thrilling expedition that led the group to Bern, Switzerland’s capital. In Bern, they explored the historic old city and its iconic landmarks, immersing themselves in the country’s rich heritage. A visit to Spiez and its historic castle overlooking Lake Thun offered stunning views and a glimpse into local history. The group then enjoyed a scenic ferry ride to the town of Thun, where they explored at a leisurely pace.

The participants tested their limits at several adventure parks. The Adelboden adventure park challenged them with zipline courses, culminating in a heart-stopping free-fall jump from a bridge. They also walked across one of Europe’s longest pedestrian suspension bridges, climbed a multi-level high ropes tower, and enjoyed a giant swing ride with the Swiss Alps as a backdrop.

As the week drew to a close, the group gathered for a heartfelt closing ceremony, reflecting on the friendships formed and the unforgettable experiences shared. Their Swiss adventure offered opportunities for personal growth, thrilling challenges, and cultural connections. The beauty of the Swiss Alps, the excitement of adventure, and the warmth of newfound friendships left an indelible mark on the 24th Santa Venera Girl Guides, a testament to the power of exploration and the magic of shared experiences!
