Last November, Tamaia and Katya, representing Malta Girl Guides (MGG), participated in ‘The Academy’ in Wiesbaden, Germany – an unforgettable experience that broadened their minds with innovative ideas to elevate MGG. This article explores their reflections on how ‘The Academy’ reshaped their perspectives and inspired aspirations for advancing MGG to the next level.
‘”The Academy’ held in Wiesbaden, Germany, was an unforgettable experience which has opened up our minds to new, innovative ideas which can be brought to the MGG in hopes of taking it to the next level. We attended various sessions which tackled a variety of different approaches we as MGG can adopt, such as Surf Smart, Strategic Planning, and Preparing for the Unpreparable. Through networking we realised how advanced MGG is in certain areas, such as Safeguarding, for which we acted as a model for other countries. Despite this, we have also gained knowledge on tactics which can be used for future projects, recruitment strategies, and maintaining a more effective and sustainable association, especially in terms of digitalisation.
Through such networking we have created friendships with fellow Guides and Scouts, who have undoubtedly widened our scope of what Guiding is all about and the importance such an association holds, especially in such a small country. We cannot wait to share the eye-opening information we have gained throughout our exceptional experience and hope that fellow members will be as eager to hear about it as we are to spread it.
We cannot wait to share the eye-opening strategies and tools we have gained at The Academy. We also hope that fellow members will be eager to hear about them and help us implement changes to elevate the Guiding experience for all”.
