MGG Diversity Team Coordinator Marie Micallef and Diversity Team Member, Kylie Mallia, attended Signifo 2019, a training event focusing on spiritual development in Guiding and Scouting. This event, hosted by the organization Spiriteco, was held in Lyon, France.
Participants learnt about the role that spirituality plays within the Girl Guiding programme, about how one is to differentiate between religion and spirituality and about how to include the spiritual dimension within such program, with particular attention given to the different Guiding Sections. Spiritual development adds an additional capacity, namely to see beyond the outward appearance of things, people and facts, to seek for the deepest questions, and to wonder about why. It is the aim of Guiding to facilitate this process of deepening for its young members, a process that leads them to build a system of values that are consistent with the Guiding Promise and Law, and that can be personal or shared with others within a specific faith or religion. Best practices from the different countries participating were also shared during an International Night and a network of contacts was built.
Participants came from Malta,Romania, Italy, France, Nigeria, Brazil, Slovenia, Switzerland, Spain, Croatia, Catalunya, Belgium, Hungary and Portugal – a true diverse environment indeed !
This was surely a great opportunity for both MGG members to learn, meet other Adult Volunteers and exchange knowledge on the topic of spiritual development.
