Meet the Team

Gwen Gatt

During the short time she has  been with the Girl Guides, Gwen was the District Representative and Deputy District Commissioner for the North District. Last May, she was appointed District Commissioner for the same District.

Gwen started her Guiding experience in 2015, as a Unit Helper with the Brownie Section and eventually started her training to become a Leader. In February 2018 she became a warranted Leader.

Gwen loves Guiding since she firmly believes in its values . She feels that our young members teach us  new lessons every time  which help us be  better Leaders and also  better persons. Guiding has enriched her life as she made many new friends within the Guiding community, friends whom she calls her second family.

Gwen is a Nurse by profession, however lately she works in Human Resources in the Health Department. She loves to travel as she believes travelling opens up one’s mind to new cultures and ways of life. She also loves reading and trying out new recipes.

Tamaia Micallef Mifsud

Tamaia began her Guiding journey at the age of five with the St Joseph Sliema Unit. She has consistently strived to lend a helping hand, contributing to the Centenary Planning Team in 2023 and eventually being appointed as the North District Deputy Commissioner.

Guiding has always been a source of comfort and joy for Tamaia. She believes its values have shaped her into the strong, independent woman she is today and hopes her involvement provides the same holistic growth for future generations.

Throughout her Guiding experience, Tamaia had the opportunity to participate in The Academy 2023 in Wiesbaden, Germany. She has also completed the Bronze, Silver and Gold Levels of the Duke of Edinburgh Award and continued her training to become an Award Leader. This experience enabled her to achieve one of her dreams: meeting a member of the Royal Family, Prince Edward.

Tamaia graduated with a degree with Honours in Sport and Physical Activity and is currently pursuing a Masters in Teaching and Learning in Physical Education. Although she coaches a variety of sports with various sporting entities, she specialises in dancing and is also studying to become a professional Spanish dance teacher. Tamaia loves traveling, adventure and spending her free time with family and friends.

Analise Scicluna

Analise considers the various international experiences she participated in to be the biggest highlights of her Guiding journey. She has volunteered with Girlguiding UK and Girl Guides Australia and represented MGG at the Network Meeting in Budapest in 2016.

Her first exposure to serving MGG on a National level was when she joined the International Team in 2018. Furthermore, she was elected Central District Commissioner in 2020.

Guiding was instrumental in giving Analise the confidence to speak about things she is passionate about. The leadership and time management skills she has acquired through her Guiding journey have proved to be vital for her career as an Executive Assistance and Quality Analyst at a leading hotel in Malta. This confirms how significant Guiding has been in her life.

Katya Galea

Katya’s Guiding journey began twenty years ago when she joined the 31st Mosta Unit as a Brownie Guide. Over the years, she has continuously developed her Guiding skills, leading her to obtain her warrant first as a Ranger Guider and then as a Guide Guider.

In addition to her active involvement in her local unit, Katya has previously served as the Assistant Central District Treasurer and was a member of the Programme Team. Last year, she decided to become more involved at a National Level and was elected to the role of Deputy Central District Commissioner. She is very excited to see where this next step in her Guiding experience will lead her and hopes to continue being of service to MGG and to the District.

Katya firmly believes in the values that Guiding has instilled in her over the years: hard-work, determination, self-confidence and a sense of commitment. After graduating with a Bachelor of Communications (Hons.), she has pursued a career as a Marketing Executive where she consistently puts these values at the forefront. Katya is an avid reader who enjoys spending time outdoors, travelling and experiencing new cultures and places.

Antoniette Seychell

Antoniette began her Guiding journey at just five years old with the 18th Marsaskala Girl Guides.

In 2016, she earned her warrant as a Guide Guider, officially stepping into a leadership role, and joined the Programme Team.

Her involvement continued to grow in 2018 when she became part of the South District Events Team – a role that eventually led to her appointment as South District Events Coordinator. In 2019, she proudly represented the Malta Girl Guides at The Academy in Slovenia.

In 2023, Antoniette was part of the Centenary Planning Team, where she helped design a memorable year-long programme for the Guides section. The following year, in 2024, she was elected South District Commissioner.

Outside of Guiding, Antoniette works in the aviation industry, bringing the same passion and dedication to her professional life as she does to her volunteer work.

Stephanie Caruana Schembri

Stephanie started her guiding journey when she was seven years old, as a Brownie Guide and has never looked back since. Today she is a Dolphin Guider and also sits on the National Board.

Guiding for Stephanie is a style of living, a safe space which she can call home. Guiding helped her discover her potential and endorse a new perspective of life. Guiding was pivotal throughout her development: as a young girl to create healthy friendships and learning by doing and as a teenager- to develop a strong sense of identity, challenge herself for the better whilst simultaneously looking up respectfully towards authority. Guiding pushed her to enhance her ability to master time management in achieving career goals, and in balancing family responsibilities alongside volunteering.

Eventually, all this led her to become the woman she is today – a social worker by profession, a wife, a mother and the Deputy South District Commissioner within the Malta Girl Guides.

Jessica Scibberas

Jessica’s journey in Guiding began at the age of seven when she joined the Birkirkara Girl Guides. She later transitioned to the Rabat Girl Guides Unit, where she remained an active and dedicated member. Over the years, her involvement within the Guiding community continued to grow, and she is now a part of the Senior Rangers Section, contributing to various events and activities.

From 2022 to 2024, Jessica was a member of the first-ever Youth Committee, serving as the Central District Representative. This role provided her with valuable insights into the responsibilities of different committee positions and enhanced her leadership skills, equipping her with the knowledge and experience to support the current committee effectively.

Guiding has played a significant role in Jessica’s life, shaping her confidence and personal development. She considers it an integral part of her identity and cannot imagine life without it. Guiding has instilled in her essential life skills and has introduced her to lifelong friendships. Encouraged by her father, she has remained actively engaged in Guiding, nurturing it as a passion.

Currently, Jessica is pursuing a degree in Tourism Studies at the University of Malta. Her love for travel has led her to various international experiences, including an Erasmus+ program in Poland at the age of 18, which had a profound impact on her personal growth. Another transformative experience was her visit to Our Chalet in Switzerland, where she reconnected with the essence of Guiding. This experience deepened her appreciation for the global nature of Guiding, allowing her to engage with Girl Guides and Girl Scouts from around the world, all striving towards shared goals through diverse learning experiences.
