Meet the Team

Carmen Elina Camilleri

Carmen, also known by many as Elina, joined Guiding in 1988 at the age of 34 when her two eldest daughters became Brownies. She eventually became a Brownie Guider with the 14th St Joseph Sliema Unit. She states that this was quite a natural thing to do since her father was a Group Scout Leader in the Scouts Association and it was inevitable that she would learn all her Guiding skills from him as she grew up.

Carmen has held various National Roles within MGG. Her previous roles include National Events Commissioner, Programme Commissioner, North District Commissioner and Deputy Chief Commissioner.

Guiding has equipped Carmen with skills that have enhanced her performance in all other spheres of her life and it has given her the opportunity to mentor girls and young women to achieve the same.

Carmen is a mother to four daughters, all ex-Guides, and grandmother of five with the girls naturally following in the Guiding tradition! She has worked as a nurse, midwife, nurse tutor and teacher and is now retired. Carmen loves challenges, adventure, creative skills, meeting people, reading and gardening.

Rachel Aquilina

Guiding has been an integral part of Rachel’s life for over two decades, evolving from a mere pastime into a cornerstone of her lifestyle. The values and skills cultivated through Guiding not only enhance her experiences within meetings but also permeate her daily life. As a teacher, Guiding has bolstered her confidence and enriched her teaching methods. Welcoming motherhood in 2022 unearthed a newfound sense of wonder within herself, magnifying the remarkable journey she embarked upon.

Moreover, Guiding has seamlessly integrated into Rachel’s hobbies, allowing her to pursue adventurous activities such as camping, abseiling, and ziplining with ease. Over the years, she has assumed various roles within MGG, such as South District Commissioner and also gave contributions to the Stop the Violence Team, Program Team and Training Administration. These roles and responsibilities have empowered her to contribute meaningfully to the Association while honing her leadership and organisational prowess — a testament to her invaluable assets in navigating daily challenges.

Rachel’s involvement extends beyond local realms, as evidenced by her representation of MGG at the Network Meeting in Brussels in 2019. Drawing from these multifaceted roles and rich experiences, she stands poised and confident to lead the Association as its Chief Commissioner, ready to chart a course toward shared success and growth.

Cynthia Duncan

Cynthia has been involved in Guiding for most of her life, starting when she was just seven years old and is active with the 26th Cospicua Unit. Her journey through Guiding has been transformative, giving her a voice and empowering her in countless ways. Guiding provided Cynthia with a safe space to express herself and explore her interests without fear of judgment.

During her teenage years, Cynthia’s passion for advocacy led her to join the Advocacy team, where she focused on women’s rights and increasing awareness among women on various critical issues. She became part of the National Board as the Young National Board Member, representing the interests of all young members within the Association and ensuring their voices were heard and acted upon.

Currently, Cynthia holds the role of Deputy Chief Commissioner and is enthusiastic about the future and looks forward to the journey ahead with the Chief Commissioner Team.

Cynthia’s love for Guiding is also fueled by the opportunity it provides to connect with like-minded individuals from around the world, all striving towards common goals. Outside of Guiding, Cynthia is a lawyer who enjoys travelling and outdoor adventures, constantly seeking new experiences and challenges.
